Medical Staff Clinician Well-Being Workshops
VMS is pleased to continue our partnership with Doug Wysockey-Johnson of Lumunos Clinician Well-Being Services to offer no-cost clinician wellbeing workshops over 2025.
Lumunos Clinician Well-Being Workshops are designed to support clinicians in meeting the demands of modern health care. Workshops are built around Lumunos’ daily experience working with physicians, nurses, APPs and clinical leaders across the country. These meetings are designed to be efficient, effective and interactive, with topics that directly address the biggest challenges clinicians face daily. Many locations choose to offer these for Continuing Education credit.
Presenter: Our workshops are led by Doug Wysockey-Johnson, Workplace Program Facilitator of Lumunos, a seasoned facilitator with 20 years of experience leading clinician groups. Doug has been partnering with the Vermont Medical Society to provide clinician wellbeing workshops to Vermont medical staffs and practices since 2019. He and his family live in Richmond, VT.
Presentation Length: Anywhere from 45 minutes to 2 hours, tailored to your needs. Workshops are available via videoconference or in-person. Topics for 2025 are listed below and can be combined or modified to meet your specific needs.
Cost: The Vermont Medical Society (www.vtmd.org) is supporting Lumunos presentations so that they are available to up to 9 practices over the course of 2025 at no cost.

New Workshops for 2025
CREATING A POSITIVE TEAM CULTURE
Peter Drucker famously said, “Culture eats strategy for breakfast.” By this he meant that culture impacts everything on a team, from patient safety to staff engagement and retention. In other words, when the culture of a clinic or team is positive, we work better enjoy it more and stay longer in the job. In one recent study, 64% of younger workers said good company culture was the most important thing for them. (Beckers Hospital Review, 12/17/24). In this session you will learn what good team culture looks like, and how to take steps to improve the culture you have.
WORK/HOME BOUNDARIES
Let’s face it, being a physician or APP wreaks havoc on your home life. Call schedules, emotional and physical demands, ‘pajama time’ on the EMR, worry, and unpredictability of schedule are just a few of the challenges you face. This workshop will take an honest look at what kind of work-home balance is possible for clinicians. More importantly, evidenced-based tools on how to create stronger boundaries between work and home life will be presented.
CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW? CAN I HEAR YOU? IMPROVING COMMUNICATION WITHIN THE TEAM
Good communication is at the absolute center of positive team functioning. But in the fast paced and high stress world of the clinic, communication can be tricky. This workshop will cover not only positive communication strategies, but also address the hard stuff—conflictual conversations, giving and receiving feedback and communicating with difficult personalities.
HOPE
These are challenging time in health care. On the one hand, ‘Hope is not a strategy.’ Add to that, it is difficult to measure. On the other hand, we all know from personal experience that hope (or lack of it) makes an enormous difference in how we show up and function at work. In this workshop we will explore the importance of hope in healthcare, and practice strategies that increase hope in the clinic.
GETTING BY WITH A LITTLE HELP FROM MY TEAM
Everyone agrees that peer support is an important aspect of individual resiliency and positive team function. But it can be difficult to hard wire it into the culture of the clinic. In this workshop you will learn a few best practices for how other care teams have integrated peer support systems. In addition, you will have a facilitated conversation about what strategies would be appropriate for your team.
SELF AWARENESSS AND OTHER FORMS OF EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE
Good communication, positive team function, and necessary self-care begin with emotional intelligence. With a high level of self-awareness, providers can choose positive responses to the many challenges they face every day in the clinic. Without it, the workplace can quickly become toxic. In this workshop, tools will be provided for how to improve our self-awareness and other forms of Emotional Intelligence.
COMPASSION (FATIGUE)
Current Research is underscoring the importance of compassion, both for others and ourselves. Compassion leads to better team culture, patient outcomes, and self care. It truly is the ‘Wonder Drug’, and something that can be learned, improved, and strengthened. In this workshop participants will learn how to do all three, as well as what to do when you are experiencing compassion fatigue.
THE POWER OF YOUR WHY
Most providers chose to go into medicine for a reason. And that reason still has the power to get you through the hard days that inevitably come in health care. This workshop provides an opportunity for providers to remember and reconnect with their why, and learn tools for continuing to stay connected to their reason for practicing medicine. These conversations also serve as an excellent team building exercise.
